Fulbright: Taiwan - The 2011 International Fulbright Science and Technology Award

Overview

The Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (Fulbright Taiwan) is pleased to announce that “the 2011 International Fulbright Science and Technology Program” invites applications from outstanding Taiwan students who wish to go to the United States to pursue doctoral study in the fields of science, technology, or engineering, starting from September 2011.

The award, funded by the U.S. Department of State, is designed to be among the most prestigious international scholarships. Student nominees from around the world will compete for approximately 45 full scholarships. The grantees will be enrolled at top-notched U.S. universities, studying and doing research in a variety of fields in science, technology and engineering, including aeronautics, agriculture, astronomy, biology, biomedical engineering, chemistry, computer sciences/engineering, energy, environmental science/engineering, materials science/engineering, mathematics, neuroscience, oceanography, public health, and physics.


Eligibility:

1. Completion of at least a bachelor’s degree before Aug. 1, 2011, in one of the following fields:

aeronautics and astronomics/aeronautical engineering
agriculture (theoretical or research-based focus only)
astronomy/planetary science
biology
biomedical engineering
chemistry
computer sciences/engineering
energy
engineering (electrical, chemical, civil, mechanical, ocean, and petroleum)
environmental science/engineering
geology/earth and atmospheric Sciences
information sciences/engineering
materials science/engineering
mathematics
neuroscience
oceanography
public health (theoretical research focus only)
physics

2. A valid TOEFL score of at least iBT 92 or CBT 237 or evidence of having registered for one before June 2010.

3. A grade average at undergraduate or graduate level of at least 85.

4. A valid GRE General score, or evidence of having registered for the GRE before June 2010. (Note: a GRE Subject Exam score report will also be needed for all applicants in the following fields of study: biology; biochemistry, cell, and molecular biology; chemistry; computer science; mathematics; and physics.)

5. Evidence of research ability, such as publications or research experience.

6. All applicants must be citizens and permanent residents of the Republic of China (Taiwan), not currently studying in the U.S.; and physically present in Taiwan during the year prior to the grant year.

Conditions of Award
Grantees travel to the U.S. under a J-1 visa.

Report on Proficiency in English
Information Concerning Foreign Student Academic Records
One certified, official record (transcript) from each university or post-secondary institution you attended
Certified, official evidence of each post-secondary or university degree
Detailed curriculum vitae in Chinese and English
TOEFL, and GRE scores

Selection Procedure

Two applicants will be selected for nominations by a screening committee organized at the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange. They will be forwarded to the Institute of International Education (IIE) no later than June 15, 2010, to compete with nominations from other countries. The IIE Selection Committee will then select 45 finalists among all the nominated candidates, by September 30, 2010. Candidates will be notified of their status by October 15 2010.
