USA: The Fulbright Faculty Development Program (FFDP)

Overview

The Fulbright Faculty Development Program (FFDP) is designed for younger junior teaching faculty and scholars (no older than 39 years by the application deadline), who do not yet have a post-graduate academic degree ("kandidatskaya" or “doctorskaya”) or who received that degree within the past five years. They must be teaching at institutions of higher learning. Applicants should have a minimum of two years teaching experience and intend to return to their home institution to implement the knowledge gained on this program. FFDP grantees will work on a specific project which could include curriculum design or course development among other projects. FFDP grants are available in all fields listed for Fulbright Graduate Student and Scholar Programs in Russia.

Young teaching faculty with a post-graduate academic degree, young university lecturers who do not yet have a post-graduate academic degree ("kandidatskaya" or “doctorskaya”) but are teaching at institutions of higher learning may apply, provided they meet all other general requirements of the Fulbright Program.

Eligibility Requirements

- Citizenship and permanent resident status qualifying the applicant to hold a valid passport issued in Russia. Persons applying for or holding permanent residence in the United States are not eligible. Persons who are citizens of both a partner country and the United States are also ineligible.
- Date of birth not earlier than June 15, 1970.
- Not less than 2 years experience working in your selected field.
- Fulbright Grantees enter the United States on an Exchange Visitor (J-1) visa under a Department of State program and are subject to the two-year home-country residence requirement associated with the J-1 visa. For those candidates who have already traveled to the US on a J-1 visa, there should be a minimum of two years at the time of application since your return to Russia.
- Candidates must either not have a graduate degree or have received their graduate degree after August 1, 2005


Terms of Award

- Support for the individual faculty and scholar but not for dependents
- Grants limited to 10 -12 months, with no possibility for extension
- Course work for credit is not envisaged, although auditing of courses is encouraged
- Projects that will result in new courses are particularly encouraged
- Preference will be given to teaching faculty with at least two years teaching experience.
- Participation is limited to candidates no older than 39 years by the application deadline

Grants include:

- Monthly stipend
- Limited medical insurance
- Roundtrip transportation to the US

Application form

In order to participate in the competition, you must complete and submit an application form as well as send by regular or express mail the supplemental documents. All documents must be received by our office (in Moscow) by June 15, 2010.

IMPORTANT!

In addition to completing the Application for Study in the United States, applicants must also remember to submit Supplemental Documents by regular post to the Fulbright Office in Moscow.

- Foreign Fulbright Grant Application Cover Sheet (in English)
- Report on Proficiency in English (in English; original + 2 copies),
- Three Recommendation Letters(each letter should be in both languages(Russian and English),
- Signature Form (2 original copies in English),
- Information Concerning Foreign Student Academic Records (in English, 2 copies),
- Certified copy of a diploma of higher education (the copy can be certified either by the university or by a notary republic)
