Overview
The Energy Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC) was established in 2007 as the first research center of the Cyprus Institute. The Center is rapidly becoming an important research resource for the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and North Africa. The EEWRC addresses science, technology, economic and policy issues related to major challenges in the fields of energy, environment, climate and water. The EEWRC is being developed in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (RPF).
The EEWRC is looking for a Post-Doctoral Fellow with experience and interest in the creation of a regional data infrastructure devoted to climate, water, energy and related topics. This will involve networking activities aimed at regional climate stakeholders (research institutions, public authorities, relevant state agencies, NGOs, etc.) in order to engage key actors into creating the appropriate conditions for the formation of a regional data infrastructure devoted to climate, energy and water related data. The successful candidate will play a key role in an ongoing FP7 research project.
Applicants should preferably have two years of post-doctoral experience in analyzing and assessing the reliability and quality of climate and environmental data from various sources, the build-up of data repositories with visualization and analysis options and experiences in (regional) climate modeling. An adequate publication record and proficiency in spoken and written English are indispensable. Experience in generating and maintaining contacts in academic circles, as well as in obtaining support for research projects from funding organizations, will be an important advantage.
Appointment will be for a fixed term of two years. The anticipated starting date of the job is in early 2011.
Applications including a CV, a list of publications and the names of three contactable referees should be submitted by e-mail to jobs@cyi.ac.cy, with EEWRC-PSCEDR-06-10 in the subject heading. For further information please contact Prof. Dr. Manfred Lange, Director, EEWRC (m.a.lange@cyi.ac.cy). To be assured full consideration, applications should be received by November 30, 2010.
