Overview
Insufficient or disordered sleep is now recognised as a major cause of reduced alertness, fall-asleep crashes, heart disease, stroke, metabolic dysfunction and impaired mental health. Understanding the biology of sleep and maintaining sleep health mandates an interdisciplinary approach encompassing aspects of respiratory medicine, neurology, cardiology, endocrinology and metabolism. The Centre of Integrated Research and Understanding of Sleep (CIRUS) is an interdisciplinary centre of clinical research excellence funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council over 5 years. CIRUS supports world-class research aimed to inform clinical practice and alter health policy. The next generation of sleep researchers will be fostered through the national and international collaborations of the centre. PhD scholarships are for research that will be supervised or co-supervised by the CIRUS investigators at the participating institutions.
