Foreign Government Awards - France

Overview

The Government of France, through the Office for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in Canada offers this scholarship program to increase the mobility of students from other provinces in Canada to study in France.

Award Types

The Office for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in Canada offers scholarships for study in France at the Master’s level, Doctoral or Post-Doctoral level.

Priority will be given to those undertaking thesis under cotutelle or joint supervision (dual degree).

The scholarship is open to all disciplines (pure sciences, humanities and social sciences).

Award Value

- A monthly allowance of approximately 1060€ *
- Canada-France round-trip, economy-class airfare
- Health insurance
- Tuition fees for academic program
- Assistance with registration, visa matters and finding accommodation
* NOTE: All amounts are subject to change

Duration

- Four (4) months maximum at the Master’s level;
- Eight (8) months maximum at the Doctoral and Post-Doctoral level.
Scholarships may be renewed for students in joint Ph.D. programs. The length of stay may be eight (8) consecutive months with one paid roundtrip or two stays of four months (in this case only the first round trip is supported).


Eligibility

All applicants must:

- Be Canadian citizens enrolled full-time in a Master's degree program at an accredited Canadian university, outside of Québec (*).
- Have a sound working knowledge of the French language.
- Indicate the French institution and the laboratory or department in which they will study.
* Similar program exists for students in Québec.

To obtain a hard copy for your records, prior to submitting, you may print the form using the print function of your browser. Note that CBIE does not require a hard copy.

Applicants are required to submit the following supporting documents to complete the application process:

Please attach the following documents [*.pdf, *.jpg, *.doc] in the online application:

Curriculum Vitae (must not exceed 4 pages).
Certificate of admission from the French institution or copy of correspondence testifying that you have requested admission and/or that you will have access to the facilities needed to complete the proposed research project.

Please submit the following documents by mail:

- Proof of Canadian citizenship: one certified copy of the following: birth certificate, citizenship card or passport (do not include original documents); a certificate of baptism is not accepted as proof of Canadian citizenship.
- Official transcript (one) of ALL post-secondary studies to date (COMPLETE academic record(s) including College of Applied Arts and Technology-CAAT and CEGEP) Note: transcript(s) must be submitted in sealed envelopes or sent directly to CBIE at the address provided below.
- Two (2) original letters of recommendation from academic sources i.e. professors. Note: letters must be submitted in sealed envelopes or sent directly to CBIE at the address provided below.
- Certified copy of the diploma (notarized by Notary Public or stamped by the university that issued it) for the highest degree obtained.
- Research fellows must provide a confirmation from a professor at the intended French University that he/she will supervise the research.
- One recent passport-size photographs. Write your full name and nationality on the back of the photograph.

If applicable: language certificate (English, French, German or Italian).
If applicable: Two sets of artwork samples for applicants in Fine Arts, Music and Architecture. Applicants in the history or theory of art, music, or architecture are not required to submit samples.

Deadline

Complete applications must be submitted to CBIE by 11:59 p.m. EDT, February 18, 2011. Supporting documents must be postmarked on or before this date

Notification

Applicants who are pre-selected by the Canadian Scholarship Selection Committee will be notified at the end of March by CBIE that their applications will be forwarded to the Office for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in Canada as “nominees”.

Those who are not pre-selected will be notified at the end of March by CBIE.
