Overview
The University of Luxembourg seeks to hire outstanding PhD candidates at its Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust ( SnT ).
SnT is a recently formed centre carrying out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems and services, often in collaboration with industrial, governmental or international partners. The Centre is currently expanding its research activities and is seeking highly motivated candidates who wish to pursue research in close cooperation with our partners leading to a PhD. For further information you may check: http://www.securityandtrust.lu/.
The PhD project will be conducted in partnership with IEE. S.A. ( www.iee.lu ), a leading-edge technology company specialized in innovative sensing systems and headquartered in Luxembourg.
Project description: The PhD project will primarily focus on developing computer vision methods for enhanced 3D videos with a strong focus on real-world security applications such as real-time video surveillance and automotive safety. This research will rely on defining new mathematical models using concepts from multi-modality fusion, segmentation and tracking. In addition, the goal is to conduct full scale experiments for modelling and validation and to consider implementational aspects. Familiarity with range data and more specifically Time-of-Flight (ToF) cameras is a valuable advantage for this project. The PhD candidate will share his/her time between SnT and IEE and use facilities and experimental equipments at both sites. The PhD is expected to be completed in three to four years.
Profile: The candidate needs to hold a Master’s degree, or equivalent, in electrical engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics with strong programming skills in Matlab/C/C++. Experience in image processing, computer vision, estimation and detection is a requirement. Experience with range data is a strong advantage. The candidate must be fluent in both written and spoken English.
Application: must include the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Cover letter.
- Contact information for at least two referees.
- University transcripts.
For immediate consideration, please send your application, written in English and in PDF format only, to:
TO: snt-jobs@uni.lu
CC: djamila.aouada@uni.lu
SUBJECT: PhD in Computer Vision
For further inquiries, please contact Dr. Djamila Aouada ( djamila.aouada@uni.lu ) or Prof. Björn Ottersten ( bjorn.ottersten@uni.lu ). The call is open until the position is filled.
