Ting Hsin International Group, Tinghyi (Cayman Islands) Holding Corporation Scholarship

Overview

In accordance with the agreement between Ting Hsin International Group, Tinghyi (Cayman Islands) Holding Corporation and Waseda University signed on 21st October 2009, this scholarship will be granted to candidates elected through the stipulated screening process.

I.Scholarship Program, Graduate Schools, Number of Scholarship Recipients

(1) Scholarship Program
Master’s or professional degree programs [scholarship period: 24 months (2 years)]
(2) Graduate Schools
1) Graduate Schools accepting applications through the International Admissions Office Graduate School of Political Science, Graduate School of Economics, Graduate School of Law, Graduate School of Letters, Arts and Sciences, Graduate School of Human Sciences, Graduate School of Social Sciences, Graduate School of Sport Sciences
2) Graduate Schools accepting direct applications
Graduate School of Fundamental Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Creative Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies, Graduate School of Global Information and Telecommunication Studies, Graduate School of Japanese Applied Linguistics, Graduate School of Information, Production, and Systems, Graduate School of Environment and Energy Engineering, The Okuma School of Public Management
(3) Number of Scholarship Recipients
A combined total of 80 candidates will be elected from the September 2011 and April 2012 enrollees.


II. Eligibility


Applicants must fulfill the following requirements (1)–(6).
(1) Desire to Enter the School
We seek candidates who are strongly eager to enroll in one of the aforementioned Graduate Schools of Waseda University as their first choice.
(2) Nationality
Chinese Nationals (including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau)
(3) Academic Background
Students should be enrolled in one of our specified partner universities (Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, National Chiao Tung University, National Cheng Kung University, National Sun Yat-sen University, and National Tsing Hua University) and they should expect to graduate by September 20, 2011 if they wish to be enrolled in Waseda University in September 2011 or by the end of March 2012 if they wish to be enrolled in April 2012. However, students who graduated from one of the aforementioned Taiwanese universities after June 2009, and completed their military service by the time of enrollment, will still be considered as eligible applicants.
(4) Age
Applicant must be under the age of 30 at the time of enrolment into the Graduate School of Waseda University.
(5) Academic Transcript
Applicants enrolled in the aforementioned universities in (3) should attain a GPA of at least around 3.4 (out of a 4.0 scale), from the first semester of their freshman year to the second semester of their junior year.

(6) Language Proficiency
Applicants enrolling into a Graduate School with Japanese instruction should have passed Level 1 or N1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Applicants enrolling into a Graduate School with English instruction should have a TOEFL score of at least around 600 (iBT around 100, CBT around 250), or an IELTS (Academic) score of at least around 7.0.

III. Tuition Fees and Scholarship

(1) For candidates awarded with this scholarship, the financial burden of the entrance, tuition, educational environment improvement and experiments fees will be borne by Ting Hsin International Group, Tinghyi (Cayman Islands) Holding Corporation and Waseda University during the period enrolled in Waseda University (maximum of 24 months).
(2) This scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarships offered by Waseda University, or government-sponsored scholarships, including tuition waivers.
(3) An annual allowance of 1,500,000 Japanese yen is provided for daily expenses.
(4) Upon entering Waseda University, the academic performance of the candidates will continue to be assessed for one year. If the candidate is unable to maintain satisfactory results, the scholarship will be discontinued in the second year.
(5) All flight tickets and other travel expenses incurred when coming to Japan should be privately financed and will not be borne by Waseda University.
(6) Waseda University will provide successful candidates with information regarding accommodation in Japan. Candidates should then make their own arrangements for accommodation.
