TWAS-IACS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme

Overview

The Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, India and TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world, offer fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (other than India) who wish to pursue research leading towards a PhD in a field of natural sciences.

Programme Details

1.TWAS-IACS Postgraduate Fellowships are tenable at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) - www.iacs.res.in - for a period of up to four years for studies leading to a PhD degree. Research areas carried out include:

Theoretical physics
Condensed matter physics
Spectroscopy
Materials science
Non-conventional energy
Physical chemistry
Organic chemistry
Inorganic chemistry
Biological chemistry
Polymer science

2.IACS will provide a monthly stipend to cover living costs, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.
3.Applicants must observe the IACS academic calendar, which starts in April each year, and be ready to start their Fellowship on the first day of classes/courses.
4.The language of instruction is English.


Eligibility

Applicants for these Fellowships must meet the following criteria:

- be a maximum age of 30 years on 31 December of the application year;
- hold a Master's degree in a field of natural sciences;
- be nationals of a developing country (other than India);
- must submit an Acceptance Letter from a department of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) (see sample Acceptance Letter included in the application form);
- provide evidence of proficiency in English.


Submitting your application

The deadline for receipt of applications is 30 June of each year.

Applicants must submit an Acceptance Letter from a department of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) when applying, or by the deadline at the latest. Without preliminary acceptance the application will not be considered for selection.

Reference letters: Referees must send signed letters as attachments via e-mail directly to TWAS and IACS. The subject line must contain: IACS/PG/candidate’s surname. Alternatively, reference letters can be sent by post in sealed envelopes.
Applicants to the TWAS-IACS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme should send a copy of their application both to TWAS and IACS (hard copy only).
