PhD Position for Cambodia - VU University Amsterdam (The Netherlands)

Overview

VU University Amsterdam (The Netherlands), the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), Pannasastra University of Cambodia (PUC), University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and Radboud University Nijmegen (The Netherlands), in collaboration with the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, are inviting qualified applicants to apply for the following Ph.D. position.

Project title: “The South Korean investment boom: An opportunity for Cambodian entrepreneurship?” This Ph.D. position is created within an interdisciplinary research program entitled: “Competing Hegemonies: Foreign-dominated processes of development in Cambodia”.

Duration: 4 years, full-time. The position will be offered a 4-year scholarship, will be located at one of the partner universities in Phnom Penh, and will be a visiting researcher to VU University Amsterdam in the Netherlands for 27 months within this 4-year appointment. The candidate – upon successful completion – will receive a doctorate in economic science from VU University Amsterdam.


Eligibility Requirements

The candidate has the following qualification:

-A master’s degree, preferably in economic science or social sciences (development sociology, development studies, anthropology, political science).
Knowledge of and/or affinity with the theme of foreign investments and entrepreneurship.
-Familiar with economic and social research methods.
-A sound knowledge of the modern history of Cambodia.
-A citizen of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
-An excellent active and passive command of both the Khmer language (mother tongue) and the English language (TOEFL 550).
-Some proficiency in the Korean language.
