Overview
The School of Mathematics has a vacancy for a Research Fellow in connection with the EPSRC grant "Unitary forms of Kac-Moody algebras and Kac-Moody groups".
You post involves study of a finite-dimensional representation of the unitary form of the split real Kac-Moody algebra of type E10 constructed in cosmology and attempt to generalize this representation to other types and to other ground fields. Jointly with the PI you will investigate the possibility of lifting this representation, and the ones you constructed during the project, to unitary forms of the corresponding split Kac-Moody groups.
Eligibility requirements
You will have a strong background in one or more of the disciplines of group theory, geometry, Lie theory, and representation theory, a doctoral degree in mathematics or equivalent qualification or experience and good communication, collaboration skills.
Salary
Starting salary in the range of £27,319 to £35,646 a year pro rota (potential progression on performance once in post to £37,839 a year pro rata). The post is available from 1st September 2010 for a period of 36 months.
