Overview
In an effort to further the educational component of our mission, the Center for Global Health supports students who exhibit outstanding academic records and a strong desire to pursue global health careers. Each year, eight or nine scholarships are awarded to incoming MPH, MHS, and MS students in the Bloomberg School of Public Health. The scholarships are awarded through a competitive process and are open to all domestic and international students.
Apply for a Global Health Scholarship
There is not a separate application for the Global Health Scholarship. Instead, all admitted students into the Bloomberg School of Public Health are considered for the award. You can only be awarded the scholarship as a new student; returning students are not eligible. If you wish, you may mention your desire for the scholarship in your admissions essay. The scholarship covers full tuition for the 11-month MPH program and for one year of a two-year MHS or MS program.
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health requires applicants submitting academic records from institutions outside the U.S. to have their documents evaluated by an external credentialing agency.
MPH Admission Requirements:
Application - All applicants must submit the online admissions application available through the School's Admissions Office, which includes the submission of a:
Curriculum vitae (CV) or resume
Personal Statement
Application instructions are available on the admissions website. (At this time, JHSPH is not participating in SOPHAS).
Transcripts - Transcripts are required from each academic institution attended beyond high school.**(Important note for International Applicants below!)
Three letters of recommendation are required - Recommendation forms are provided in the online application materials.
Standardized test scores - Official scores from one of the following tests are required of all MPH applicants: GRE, MCAT, GMAT, or LSAT.
Applicants who do NOT clearly demonstrate strong quantitative skills are not admitted into the program.
Applicants may elect to have their applications reviewed without a standardized test score if they have 1) Earned an advanced degree beyond the baccalaureate, and 2) Have successfully completed college/university-level math or quantitative courses, which are listed on their academic transcripts.
Applicants who request to have their applications reviewed without a standardized test score may significantly reduce their chances of being awarded a scholarship.
Please note: In some geographic areas, GMAT testing centers are more accessible than those for the GRE; and the GMAT is a suitable standardized test for applicants to the MPH Program.
Coursework - All applicants are required to have successfully completed at least one college-level course in each of the following areas:
Mathematics (e.g., calculus, algebra, statistics)
General biology
Health-related science (e.g., nutrition, microbiology, anatomy or physiology), OR another biology course
English Language Proficiency - Applicants from countries in which English is not the primary language must submit official scores of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum TOEFL score of 250 on the computer-based test, 600 on the paper-based, or 100 on the Internet-based test is required for admission into the MPH program. Applicants from this list of countries are required to submit TOEFL scores. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores with a minimum score of 7.0 are also acceptable.
Experience - A minimum of two years of full-time post-baccalaureate health-related work experience is required of all applicants who have not earned a doctoral degree. This requirement may be waived for applicants to the MPH combined degree programs (except for the combined MPH/MBA degree, which does require the two years of health-related work experience).
